Established in 1966 the department was upgraded to Post Graduation in 2007. All the sanctioned posts of the teachers are filled out of which nine hold PhD as their highest degree and one is M.Phil.. Total number of teachers in the department is 11.

One departmental library with 165 books and journals and one departmental computer.        

Faculty members participated in 28 National Level seminars and Conferences. Dr Satiish Chaturvedi, Head of the Department is associated with Swan Sea University as guest faculty for Gandhian Studies. He is guiding seven research scholars. Has organised one national and one international conference and has membership of several academic bodies such as Indian Political Science Association. Department has research collaboration with:

• Centre for Gandhian Studies, Swan Sea University, Wales, UK.

• Indian Political Science Association.
